MP3 Downloads and a Changing Music Business

December 6th, 2008 by admin

Long gone are the days when your local record store held the goods for the latest album releases and hit singles.  In fact, mp3 downloads are the most popular form of song acquisition for a music hungry market.  Physical CD music sales are way down and pretty much every kid between the ages of 8 to 18 utilize an mp3 player as their choice to listen to tunes.

In light of the dramatic shift from physical to digital, music companies are beginning to change their tune as far as song marketing and sales. In a sense, many record companies have begun to license free streaming tunes in an ad-supported business model.  Whether this model is viable remains to be seen, but at least in the short run, music fans should notice an increase in free mp3 downloads.
