The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument is an expansive and exciting attraction in the state of Oregon. Hiking, river rafting and fishing are just some of the activities you can enjoy here. Two of the most exciting aspects of the John Day Fossil Beds are of course, geology and fossils. You can learn about both at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center at the Sheep Rock Unit section of the park. The Thomas Condon Paleontology Center features a terrific assortment of exhibits, audiovisual presentations, and interpretive programs. As you tour this facility, you’ll learn about fossils, geology, and the exciting paleontology research that is conducted at the Center. There are many different exhibits displayed at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center which feature fossils. The fossils are combined with other interpretive materials to detail 40 million years of plant and animal evolution. The geology of the John Day Fossil Beds and the process of discovery, study and storage are also detailed at the Center. You can find out more about visiting the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center online at the National Park Service website, NPS.gov. Search for John Day Fossil Beds, and follow the links to the Sheep Rock Unit and Paleontology Center pages.
