What rules govern the private plates marketplace? The main one is that you will not be allowed to make a car look younger than it actually is, for example if you buy registration number XX08 XXX and your car is a 2003 car you will not be allowed to assign the number to your car and your money is wasted. There is a very good reason for this rule, imagine no such rule existed, unscrupulous car traders would buy cars of 4 or 5 years of age, put private plates on them of 06 or 07 and sell them to some unsuspecting punter for a huge profit.
