A proper introduction

In some cases I have submitted my resume in advance of applying for a job. I should caution you here that sending out large groups of unsolicited resumes only provides job security for the post office and does little for your chances of getting a job. Resumes should never be submitted without cover letters to introduce them to the prospective employer. Your cover letter personalizes the resume to a particular job opening. It needs to be addressed to the person doing the hiring and explain why you are applying for this particular job. Remember, in most cases this will be the first thing they see of yours.
