Debt Management: A Smart Move

March 21st, 2009 by admin

I used to work for a credit card company and part of our job was to remind customers that they had overdue payments.  Although it wasn’t the most pleasant part of my job, I enjoyed helping people solve their problems.  Sometimes, however, I would advise them that they were getting late and over limit fees and they would dismiss me, telling me they would just go bankrupt.  At that point I always gave them my best debt advice, which was to talk to a debt management company.  Those customers had no idea how hard life would get after a bankruptcy.  I would let them know that negotiating to pay off their debts was the smart move, for us and them.  Most of them listened – the smart ones, at least.
