12v wirings and fixtures are tailor made for locations that are wet and therefore work safely when exposed to outdoor moisture. 120v cables and connectors must necessarily be waterproof because they are susceptible to shocks if they become moist. The 120v systems are best for larger usage like for example commercial apartments etc. But as far as residences are concerned low voltage landscape lighting systems is an intelligent choice when they correctly installed and sized.
