12v bulbs and lamps are tiny so that you can use fixtures that are still smaller and hence less obtrusive in your outdoor environment. The bulbs can also be found in many low watt kinds and can be bought from a choice of beam spreads – which means – that light is emitted at narrow angles or wide angles and a variety of other angles determined by the lamp you select. This kind of low voltage landscape lighting results in more artistic and precise lighting effects with lesser costs for energy consumption.
Safety:
12v wirings and fixtures are tailor made for locations that are wet and therefore work safely when exposed to outdoor moisture. 120v cables and connectors must necessarily be waterproof because they are susceptible to shocks if they become moist. For your home landscape it seems obvious that low voltage lighting systems are far better. The 120v systems are best for larger usage like for example commercial apartments etc. But as far as residences are concerned low voltage landscape lighting systems is an intelligent choice when they correctly installed and sized.
