My Uncle Saved Us

My family was ruined by drugs. Before she started taking them, my mother was a great parent. She took us to the park, fixed wonderful home-cooked meals, and tucked us in at night. But once she became addicted, all she cared about was going to parties. She often left us home alone for hours, without even anything in the fridge to eat. If it weren’t for my uncle, who had a college criminal justice degree, I don’t know what would have happened to us. He had been trained to recognize the signs of drug abuse, and forced her to get tested. She was angry at the time, but it was the best thing for both her and us.
