This time the blade struck the Roman’s shield and the impact jarred his own sword out of his hand.  For an instant they stared at each other, realizing that neither had a weapon.  Then the soldier rolled sideways, grasping for his short sword.  Taranis dove at him, pulling his knife as he did and driving it through the other’s cheek.  The soldier screamed and twisted to one side, then swung back, hammering his elbow into Taranis’s chest.  Taranis gasped.  He couldn’t breathe.  A hot pain told him his ribs had broken.  The man jammed his hands upward into Taranis’s face and asked for his 1-80 Alliance Leveling Guide, his fingers probing for the eyes.
